First-year students who consider themselves part of the LGBT community should check out joining the Columbia Mentoring Initiative (CMI), one of the many programs on-campus which caters to LGBT students.
CMI seeks to embrace and celebrate diversity, connecting students with other diverse peers. CMI integrates first-years into a family of current students and college alumni, instantly creating valuable connections that will aid you in your four years at Columbia and life after college. As a member of CMI, you will have the opportunity to attend events and meet with a group of students regularly which will be comprised of first-years and upperclassmen. Last year, the program hosted a variety of events including career panels, outings to a Broadway show and the Apollo, a NYC Bus tour, and meals at different cultural restaurants around Manhattan.
CMI is a great way to get in touch with freshmen, upperclassmen, and alumni, making valuable connections along the way. If you’re interested in joining, please send a quick email with your name, year, UNI, and a quick mention that you’d like to join the LGBT Tree, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
