Did you miss us? After a long winter break full of finals and family we are back for the new year. Our first event will be the ever popular QUEER CURRY. We’re working on making it an event not to miss (although, honestly, free curry is really all that is needed…) and hope to see you there!

After a successful QUEER SUSHI, the Columbia Queer Alliance is BACK with more free food and more fun. Join us for our annual Queer Curry this Thursday to celebrate the new year (and not the returning of classes) and welcome new Spring students.

If you attended QUEER SUSHI you know the food went fast–make sure to come early and get your curry before it goes!

Join us for the National March on Washington

Join a number of organizations from Columbia University in heading down to the March on Washington on Sunday, October 11th, 2009.

The march has one single demand:

Equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states. We will accept no less and will work until it is achieved. Equality Across America exists to support grassroots organizing in all 435 Congressional Districts to achieve full equality.

We are guaranteed equal protection under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. Free and equal people do not bargain for or prioritize our rights. Full equality necessarily includes all members of the LGBT community and encompasses, but is not limited to:

  • The right to work our jobs and go to school free of harassment and discrimination.
  • The right to safety in our daily lives, and protection from hate crimes.
  • The right to equitable healthcare, and the right to donate blood.
  • The right to equitable immigration policies.
  • The right to marry.
  • The right to serve in the military openly.

Interested in going or helping us organizing? Register Now to receive more information and learn how you can reserve a spot on a bus heading down to Washington with Columbia students.

Looking for more information about the March? Look no further than their official website.

UPDATE: Our free buses are full. You may now register to take a bus from 116th Street to the march by signing up online and paying $34:
http://nycgomarch.eventbrite.com/

This is still the cheapest option for getting to and from the march!

**Sponsoring Organizations so far include: Columbia Queer Alliance, International Socialist Organization, Everyone Allied Against Homphobia

Reminder: Queer Sushi this Thursday!

Just a reminder that Queer Sushi is coming up this Thursday @ 7pm in the Partyspace. We’ll have over 1000 pieces of sushi and we hope you’ll join us to share in all the deliciousness!

Queer Sushi is typically a great time to get to know new students at the school as well as interact with a number of LGBTQ clubs and supportive departments across campus. Check out more information and RSVP at our Facebook Event.

If you’re interested in helping us out in the set-up and clean-up for Queer Sushi, please contact me(!) at bwr2106@columbia.edu. We look forward to seeing you soon!
