Get Involved

Interested in getting more involved with CQA? We’d love for you to join!

One of the best ways to get involved is to come to our weekly general meetings, usually held on Sundays. Meeting times will be posted in our calendar as soon as they become available. There are many ways for you to participate and become part of the team, so don’t be hesitant to contact us and ask questions if there is a particular way you would like to help out.

Events

First Friday
First Friday is our major social monthly event, taking place (as the name says) every first Friday of the month. The dance is centered around a theme chosen during general meetings. One of the biggest parties at Columbia, attracting well over a hundred fifty students each month, First Friday is a great event to put on (and to attend!).
First Friday requires a whole lot of group effort, but the end result is always worth it. Whether you want to help create flyers, or take a shift during the dance itself behind the bar or helping out front, we can always use an extra pair of hands.

Speaker Series
Our major political event, Speaker Series are also held on a monthly basis focused on a topic of interest and often related to queer activism. Past events have focused on such topics as “Don’t ask, Don’t Tell” and the ban on gay men blood donors. Maintaining CQAs political and activist history, this event seeks to both educate and inspire change.

Planning for Speaker Series includes reserving spaces, getting speakers, and everything in between. Students (especially first years) are encouraged to get involved in the process and learn what building an event from scratch is like at Columbia.

Queer Sushi
Our kickoff of the year, the always popular queer sushi features free raw treats and a great opportunity to mingle and meet other queer students as well as members of queer groups at Columbia. But be sure to get there early, as food always runs out fast!

Queer Curry
Our spring-semester kickoff features spicy food and equally attractive queer students. A great way to warm up to the semester ahead after winter holidays.
