First Friday: Give Back. Join us for the last FF of the year. All proceeds go to the Ali Forney Center for LGBTQ homeless youth. There will be raffles with awesome prizes, including things from Babeland and various local vendors. Get an extra raffle ticket by purchasing a donut on Tuesday. Friday 10.2.11 at 11:30PM in Lerner Party Space.

Come support CQA as we sell Krispy Kreme donuts for charity. If you buy a donut, your dollar goes to the Ali Forney Center for LGBTQ homeless youth, and you get an extra raffle ticket for First Friday. Donuts are $1 each. 9AM – 5PM outside Butler.

CQA and the Columbia University College Republicans co-sponsored keynote speaker Senator James Alesi on October 20. With opening remarks made by SIPA professor Tanya Domi, the senator addressed his support for the 2011 Marriage Equality Act.

In conjunction with Latino Heritage Month, Queer Awareness Month, and Everyone Allied Against Homophobia, the Columbia Queer Alliance presents “Queer Carnival” on the 7th of October 2011.

It is inspired by the late and great Celia Cruz’s song “La Vida Es Un Carnival” Carnival within the Comunidad Latina is a period of celebration usually in February. Carnival is seen as a time to say farewell to the pasts sins and prepare one’s self for the act of repentance throughout the Lent season. During the celebration, a parade occurs where an array of floats comes down the main streets, each depicting different aspects of the Comunidad Latina.

I wanted to introduce you all to DJ Simon Herzog, CC 2012. He’s one of our favorite DJ’s here at CQA because of his immense talent and wonderful personality. He’ll be DJing this month’s First Friday! Get to know him a little bit and be sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter!

Simon Herzog, born and raised in Vienna, Austria, has been producing and DJing electronic music for over 6 years. In addition, he also designs, sews and prints clothing and builds and programs music controllers. Herzog’s live sets are innovative and full of energy, driven by the fragility and challenge of rebuilding and remixing complex tracks live. In his DJ sets, Herzog excites crowds with live mashups and an eclectic music selection. He regularly plays at clubs and events in Vienna and New York and recently performed for 2,500 aboard the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier.
